Bicycle Patrol Unit

Operations Division

As a part of our ongoing community policing plan, the Holland Police Department operates a Bicycle Patrol Unit. Bicycles can be utilized during special events that are held in town and as extra patrol during the summer. Bicycles allow us to become more visible and more accessible to members of our community. Patrolling on bicycles also allow us to prevent crime by giving us access to certain areas we would not have access to with regular cruiser patrol. Members of our Bicycle Patrol Unit attend specialized Bicycle Patrol training. This training is designed to certify Police Officers to safely and effectively patrol. The program trains Officers in bicycle safety, bicycle maintenance and injury prevention, along with tactical patrol procedures and crime prevention. Upon completion of the course each Officer must pass a written examination and a practical obstacle course. The Department owns 2 specially outfitted Police Mountain Bikes.
