Town of Holland Animal Control is a separate entity from the Holland Police Department, however falls under the operational control of the Police Chief and is assigned to the Operations Division of the department. The Animal Control Officer(s) are not police officer's, nor are they sworn with police powers under the authority of
the Police Chief, although they do maintain the authority to file criminal charges through the court system against violators of the law as it pertains to animals, as well as maintain the authority to enforce local by-laws.
If you wish to file a complaint in regards to an animal or wish to speak with an ACO you may call the ACO voicemail at 413-245-0117 ext. 350. The system is set up to contact the ACO advising them there is a message so please ensure your message is left on the ACO voicemail and not the general Police Department voicemail in order to expedite response.
If you are the owner of a dog which resides in Holland and you have yet to register your dog please visit the Holland Town Clerk’s Office in person or contact them via phone at 413-245-7108 ext: 102.
Pursuant to M.G.L. c. 140 s. 137, the owner or keeper of a dog over the age of 6 months shall obtain a license for the dog which will be processed in the office of the licensing authority in the city or town in which the dog is kept.
Please be advised that no license will be issued unless the owner of the dog provides the licensing authority with a veterinarian's certification that the dog has been vaccinated in accordance with M.G.L. c. 140 s. 145B, which states in part that the dog shall be vaccinated against rabies by a licensed veterinarian.
Whoever violates section 137 shall be assessed a penalty of not less than $50.00 in accordance with section 141, and whoever violates section 145B may be punished by a fine of up to $100.00.
